5 Things You Can Do to Not Be Lonely This Valentines Day

Ahh Valentine’s Day. The yardstick of commitment for any romantic relationship. It is loved by many, and loathed by others for being a reminder of just how lonely they actually are in this world. For those of you who are reading this and nodding your heads in silent agreement with that last statement, I have felt your pain at one point in my life and it isn’t fun.
Nobody likes to feel unwanted, and seeing bouquets of flowers sitting on the desk of the cubicle next to yours can be enough to send anyone over the edge into despair, eating every piece of chocolate in sight or drowning in a vat of alcohol. For those of you who just can’t take anymore of it there are things you can do to improve your current situation, but they’re going to take some work. This article isn’t going to solve your relationship problems or make you into the dynamic Don/Donna Juan you have seen in the movies who gets every guy/girl every time. But there are some things you can do today to make this Valentine’s Day the opposite of lonely.
So follow these tips and keep in mind that good things come to anyone who is willing to make them happen:

1)Online Dating This by far is the greatest invention in the history of lonely people in the world. There are literally millions of other lonely people who are waiting to find the right match online and all you have to do is be willing to get yourself out there. You don’t need to be super attractive, but try to put as attractive as possible of a picture of yourself up with your profile. There are websites out there like www.hotornot.com where you can post your favorite pictures of yourself and have them blindly rated by other users on a scale of 1-10 if you’re unsure which photo of you looks best. When you’re writing your profile, do yourself a favor and look at the competition, find out what other men/women are writing about and by all means don’t write the same things as them. Be original, be clever and try to stand out. Then start sending messages to as many other users as you can. If you start tonight, chances are you will find a willing partner to share a drink with you this evening and what happens from there is anyone’s guess.

2)Go Out! For the love of God, do not spend Valentine’s Day sitting at home eating ice cream in your boxer shorts/pajamas/underwear watching Discovery HD Theater! Take advantage of the energy of this night to go out to bars and clubs and anywhere else where people are social and meet other people. You don’t need pick up lines, either just be ready to talk to anyone you meet and try not to drink if at all possible. You will be amazed that you can go from being a complete stranger, to everyone’s best friend in a matter of hours and you don’t have to spend a bunch of money buying men/women drinks either. Just be confident and make friends, if you’re looking for romance then find ways to escalate, physical contact is a good start, so is kissing.

3)Get a Spa Treatment If you’re feeling depressed and being social is not a high priority for your agenda, the best way to rejuvenate your spirit is through pampering yourself. There are tons of ways you can make yourself feel better at your local spa or barber shop. Whether it’s something small like getting your hair cut and a scalp massage or something a little more intimate like a full body, deep tissue massage, human contact of any kind is better than none at all. Sometimes, a little rub down is all you need to loosen up the tension and get back in the game.

4)Meet up with your friends If you have other single friends, chances are they are as lonely as you are or at least might be open to having a drink or dinner after work. Spend some time with your friends, especially those you haven’t seen in a while and you have lost contact with. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to try out a new wing-man/woman in a social setting too so if you can find one of your long lost bro’s or sistahs, you both might find that your lack of familiarity breeds interesting conversations with strangers of the opposite sex.

5) Throw a party Whether you plan to go out and meet new people in a social setting, or you have a ton of single or attached friends looking to have a good time tonight, you will have the advantage if you set the agenda and throw a pre or post party get-together with the people you meet and know. If you have your eye on a special someone, and you’re looking to move things to another level, a party is an ideal way to take pressure off of the situation and be as casual as possible with them, while allowing you an opportunity to escalate your relationship with them through fun and playful physical contact. The best part, is that you’re already at home when it’s time to kick everyone else out, they can stay and keep you company.
The common theme among all of the suggestions that I gave you is activity. You need to make sure you are going out and doing things, and not passively waiting for things to change for you. Nobody is going to cure you of your loneliness but you, so get out there and don’t be afraid of rejection. Make this the best Valentine’s Day you’ve ever had and have fun!
